Lyme Disease

Lyme Disease, caused by a corkscrew bacteria passed from a deer tick, is widespread in New England. If inadequately treated or untreated, it can advance to “chronic Lyme Disease” (aka “tertiary Lyme Disease”) which can affect virtually all systems of the body. Although it can cause many symptoms, fatigue, joint pain, and cognitive/neurological problems are most common.

What you eat (and not eat!) is critical to recovery.

The road to recovery with Chronic Lyme can sometimes be a long one, but it’s important to hang in and have hope – it will get better. In addition to the therapy prescribed by your doctor, your diet is extremely important to your healing process. What you eat affects inflammation, the immune system, and energy levels. In fact, 70% of your immune system is located in the gut – so what you eat directly impacts the immune system. Eating the wrong foods will distract your immune system from fighting the Lyme. Further more, the intensive antibiotic therapies required for Lyme Disease can wreck havoc on your gut, resulting in gas, bloating, diarrhea, leaky gut syndrome, candida, and more. Caring for your gut during this time is as critical as taking antibiotics to fight the infection.

Lyme Disease Recovery Program

I have had the privilege of helping many people with chronic Lyme on their road to recovery, and I can help you too. I am a big fan of Dr. Kenneth Singleton’s Lyme Inflammation Diet™ to short-circuit the inflammation in the body and get you on your way to recovery. The diet can be hard, but I’m here to make it easy. From simple food substitutions to weekly menu plans, I’ll help you make it work for your life and budget. Further, we’ll assess and address any GI problems occurring from the antibiotic therapy you’re on. It’s critical to be on a good probiotic regimen, and not all are created equal. If yours isn’t working, I’ll help you find one that does.
