Cardiovascular Disease

LDL, HDL, high BP, oh my! Cardiovascular disease (CVD), a confusing mess of alphabet soup, refers to problems with your blood vessels including high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. While these problems can be inherited from your parents, nutrition and lifestyle play a major role in their development. Prevention is key, but even if you already have CVD, there is still much you can do to minimize or even reverse the effects.

We will meet a few times to go over your health history and lab tests, and take a look at what you’re eating to figure out where you are and how you got there. We’ll go over the different factors involved – things like good cholesterol, bad cholesterol, LDL particle size, triglycerides, and blood pressure – and how the foods you eat directly affect these risk factors. From there, we’ll develop a customized nutrition plan to get you back on the road to wellness. But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you’ll be sentenced to eating tofu and twigs – I’ll help you identify small changes you can make with big results. Once your plan is in place, we’ll meet periodically to track your progress and make sure you stay on course.
