Paleo30: Weeks 3 & 4

Well, life happened and I fell off the posting bandwagon. In week 2, I had some trouble spots — namely out of town guests and eating out. I also had a splurgey celebration meal. I tried to make half decent choices (no bowls of pasta drowning in cream sauce), but still felt hella crappy for a good 3 days after. By the 4th day the inflammation died down, and the cravings mostly abated. It’s a good lesson though.

Weeks 3 and 4 were decidedly better. I slacked off on my food diary, but here are some example meals:

Breakfast: Typically almond flour muffins (blueberry, banana-walnut)

Lunch: Asian chicken salad with cabbage; BALT salad

Dinner: Chicken tacos wrapped in lettuce leaves; Deconstructed chicken fajitas (no tortilla); Pork chops with sweet/sour cabbage; “Italian combo” (ham, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato) wrapped in lettuce leaves

Snacks: handful macadamia nuts

I did go out for dinner once and had some minor cheats, and did just fine. I seem to be able to have ONE cheat meal and recover with no problem. I had a few hefeweizens one night and felt like trash the next day. Gluten + yeast. Ugh.

By the end of the month, the only food I was truly missing was butter. Oh man, soy free Earth Balance is alright but it just isn’t butter. I would like some hard cheese here and there — some parmesan for my zoodles, etc. And it would be nice to have beans; I love my curried dal. But otherwise, I have no desire for grains or junk food. Hooray! I’m happy to keep the paleo diet up for the long term.
