Paleo30: Week 2

Rather than doing a Whole30 this month, I have opted to do a Paleo30 where I eat meat, vegetables, fruit and nuts. No grains, no dairy, no legumes. Other than one cheat meal, Week 1 went quite well. Here is week two.

Day 8: Aug 8

Breakfast: Espresso (black). 2 almond flour banana walnut muffins with Earth Balance.

Lunch: BALT Salad: 4 strips bacon, 1 medium tomato, 1 avocado, 2 large handfuls lettuce, mayo vinaigrette

Dinner: Pork chop, sweet & sour red cabbage, sauteed potatoes and onions

Snacks:None

Comments: I feel pretty good today, although I was sleepy in the afternoon. I had 3 beers last night when out with friends, and the yeast (esp 2 nights in a row) really is doing me in. One day I could handle, two seems to have amped up the allergies and afternoon sleepies (adrenal fatigue?). Eating today was great though, although I think I had too much carbs/sugar at dinner, and too much fat (calories).

Day 9: Aug 9

Breakfast: Black tea with stevia and So Delicious coconut creamer. 2 eggs cooked in bacon drippings. 1 1/2 sl coconut flour Paleo Bread with Earth Balance.

Lunch: BALT salad.

Dinner: Pork chop with sweet and sour cabbage, and sauteed potatoes and onions.

Comments: Pretty much the same as yesterday. I woke up today 3 lbs heavier (!) and don’t know why — I didn’t eat a ton of salt or have yeast/alcohol yesterday. *shrug* I felt pretty good though — not full of water, and my joints were happy. I’m noticing my ankle (which I sprained back in March) is finally feeling a bit better. I had one medium potato for dinner (yesterday I had 2 sm/med) in effort of toning down the carbs. Also, I used quite a bit less fat. It was noticeably less tasty.

Day 10: Aug 10

Breakfast: Black tea with So Delicious coconut creamer. Two scrambled eggs with onion and tarragon, cooked in bacon drippings.

Lunch: Quesadilla with brie, sweet potato and spicy pecans. Side of “Orleans Fries” (sweet potato fries with brown sugar, Tabasco, sour cream). At The Friendly Toast.

Dinner: Pulled pork with sweet potato, BBQ sauce, tomato salsa, on bed of lettuce. Corn tortilla chips.

Snacks: Movie theatre popcorn with butterstuff.

Comments: Well, today was a total wash. Some family came to visit, and we had lunch at The Friendly Toast. Not many paleo options other than salad. I made the best of it, mostly ate the filling out of the quesadilla. Total carb crash from all the sugar/carbs though. Saw a movie on an empty stomach so I gorged on popcorn. Overall, not a great day (gluten, corn, dairy). I won’t beat myself up over it, just get back on the horse and go back to plan tomorrow.

Day 11: Aug 11

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with sausage, apple and cheddar. Coffee with half+half. At Rogan’s in Exeter.

Lunch: Chinese crunchy salad with cabbage, carrot, cilantro, almonds, mandarin oranges, and grilled chicken with soy(coconut amino)-ginger dressing.

Dinner: Celebration dinner at Moxy! Kale chips, pumpkin seed granola, pork tenderloin with grilled peaches, fried green tomatillos with creme fraiche/grilled corn dipping sauce, Johnny cakes with pork shoulder. Two cocktails.

Snacks: Two local peaches.

Comments: I woke up today feeling kinda crappy from yesterday’s grain fest. Only sleeping 3 hrs didn’t help that. Oh well. I own it and will just move forward. Visiting family wanted to have a special breakfast at Rogan’s. A little dairy (half/half and cheddar), but I’m ok with it. The local peach season is upon us! Every year I look forward to this fabulous three weeks. Also, after months of waiting and heaps of paperwork, I received my official Canadian citizenship certificate (my father was born in Ontario, so I am entitled to citizenship). To celebrate, we had dinner at Moxy in Portsmouth. A little corn, a little dairy, possibly some wheat flour, but all in all, I did OK with dinner at this fabulous new restaurant. And the cheats were 100% worth it.

Day 12: Aug 12

Breakfast: Espresso (black). Two peaches.

Lunch: Sweet & sour red cabbage with Nurnberger sausages.

Dinner: Chicken tacos with guacamole, chopped heirloom tomato, tomatillo salsa wrapped in romaine lettuce leaves. Gin/seltzer/grapefruit juice.

Snacks: 2 Lara Bars.

Comments: Woke up today feeling really crappy. It’s amazing how 2 days of off-plan food choices completely derails my body. Allergies are horrible. Tired. Bloated. TIRED. Horrible cravings! Back on that horse.

Day 13: Aug 13

Breakfast: Espresso (black). Two local peaches. One banana.

Lunch: Cauliflower Fauxlafel with lemon-tahini sauce, and salad of greens, garden tomatoes, cucumber, and balsamic vinaigrette.

Dinner: Zoodle Piccata with grilled chicken.

Snacks: Lara bar.

Comments: Cravings were slightly better today. Man, last week there were none. I’m still amazed at how 3 “bad” meals screwed that up. Otherwise, I did pretty good today! The ragweed pollen has emerged. I was fine until after dinner — I used white wine in the piccata. Commence sneezing, itchy mucous membranes, hives. UGH.

Day 14: Aug 14

Breakfast: Two fresh, local peaches! Black espresso.

Lunch: 2 eggs, 3 sl bacon, onion, cilantro

Dinner: Italian Combo wraps (romaine lettuce, ham, salami, provolone, hot peppers, tomato)

Snacks: Lara Bar

Comments: I managed to not go to the Barley Pub tonight. How strong am I!
